The short version: in OrderEasy, a credit sale at the POS goes straight onto that customer’s khata. You set a limit per customer, see what is owed on every bill, and record payments when they come in.
Why the khata notebook stops working
The notebook is fine when twenty families buy on credit. It gets hard when you need to answer questions at the counter: has this customer crossed what I am comfortable giving? Which bill is this ₹500 payment for? Did my son note yesterday’s sale? A digital khata answers those from the same place you bill.
How the OrderEasy khata works
- Credit as a payment mode. At the POS, choose Credit or split the bill between cash or UPI and credit. The credit part lands on that customer’s khata.
- Credit limit per customer. Decide how much udhaar each customer can carry. The bill shows the remaining limit before you complete it.
- Lock when over the limit. If a customer is over their limit, the khata can lock further credit, so nobody at the counter gives more by mistake.
- Bill-wise khata. Dues are tied to bills, not a vague running number, so “he owes something” becomes a list you can show.
- Only your customers. The POS customer search shows this shop’s customers by name, not every phone number on the platform.
Record a payment
- Find who owes. Open the khata list and use the Due Only filter.
- Open the customer’s khata. You see their bills, payments and remaining limit.
- Record Payment. Enter the amount and how it was paid. The balance updates straight away.
The Customer ka khata tutorial shows this in just over a minute.
Customers see their own balance
Arguments over udhaar usually come from two people holding different numbers. When a customer uses the OrderEasy customer app with your shop, they can see their balance and limit there. Credit bills in the app show the remaining balance, not only the latest order’s total.
Moving your notebook across
You do not have to type in years of history. A practical way to switch:
- Pick a date to start. From that day, every credit sale goes through the POS.
- For each customer who owes money, add them with their mobile number and set a credit limit you are comfortable with.
- Bring their opening due across, then close the old notebook page with the same figure so both books agree.
- Keep the notebook for reference until those old dues are settled.
The other side: what you owe suppliers
Shops carry two khatas: what customers owe you and what you owe distributors. OrderEasy keeps a supplier khata too, with inward stock recorded against the supplier’s bill. Read supplier khata and purchase bills for that half.

Questions people ask
What is a digital khata?
A digital khata is the shop’s credit (udhaar) book kept in software instead of a notebook. In OrderEasy it is connected to billing, so a sale on credit goes on the customer’s khata automatically.
Can I set a credit limit for a customer?
Yes. Each customer can have a credit limit. The bill shows the remaining limit, and the khata can lock when a customer is over it.
Can customers see what they owe?
Yes. Customers who use the OrderEasy customer app can see their balance and limit with your shop.
How do I record a payment against udhaar?
Open the customer’s khata and use Record Payment. The Due Only filter lists the customers who still owe money.
